Ibiraquera is located 10Km from the small port of Imbituba where you will find banks with ATM’s 24/7, a bus-station, super-markets and some local shops etc.

At 40Km you will find the historical village of Laguna where you can make pleasant boat trips to observe the whales and also enjoy nice beaches with plenty of tourism landmarks including the Santa Marta Light-house.

Besides this, you will find in Ibiraquera a few restaurants and bars with local dishes. The restaurants are open all the year round.

As you are surrounded by nature, Pousada Ibirawave can arrange for you horse riding, hiking trails with a guide over routes to neighbouring (hidden) beaches like “Praia D’Agua" (“Water Beach”), Rosa Beach and “Caminho do Rei” (“King’s Trail”).

Barra de Ibiraquera is geographically located between the 4 lakes and the ocean. This provides for a beautiful environment. Neighbouring beaches are also are very attractive and well worth a visit. Garopaba Beach and Rosa Beach offer you, beside the beauty´s of nature, some good night-life and walking trails.

The beach is very beautiful and largely deserted. It is well known for its tranquility. The beach is of a shallow gradient and covered with fine white sand. Access to the beach is easy and fun for the whole family.

For some time this beach has been famous because of the wind that blows during the spring, attracting radical sports like Kite & Wind-surfing. A typical wind is the North-Easterly that, in combination with the Swell from the South, forms big waves at the sides of the island “Batuta”. This place is the training spot for famous wind surfing champions like Kauli Seady and Wilhelm Schurmann.

There are four beautiful lakes in Ibiraquera. Two of them, Lagoa de Baixo and Lagoa de Cima (Lower and Upper Lake) are great lakes for kiting and windsurfing. All lakes are great for trips with the whole family with clear and calm waters. This provides plenty of fun for the children and is also good for fishing.

Ibiraquera contains all the ingredients for wave sports and marine events. In October the National Windsurf Championships were held on this beach. Ibiraquera and adjacent beaches are also the venue for the WCT, (The World Surf Championships).

The Inn is located in front of the school “Kite & Surf” with instructors skilled in either sport. Also the Inn has ties to local safe storage of wind surf equipment at wind-surf school “Windlars” where instruction lessons can be provided by instructor Lars Hagelund. At the Inn we can also arrange lessons with private kite-surf instructor Paul Hagelund. There are discount prices for guests.

The Inn also has ties with the “Windcenter” in Florianópolis (www.windcenter.com.br). This shop specializes in Wind & Kite-surfing equipment. Discount prices can be negotiated for the guests of Ibirawave.

From July until October the area of Ibiraquera receives Antarctic visitors. The bay will be filled with several whales, the “Right Whale” who give birth here to their calves. You will also find Penguins on the beach. There are some companies specialized in whale-watching boat trips and will bring you very close to the whales. Further information can be obtained at the Inn together with the necessary bookings.
